The Clinical Study of Nimesulide (Mesulid^(¢ç)) in Orthopaedic Field

Abstract
|
|
|
(Mesulid¢ç) is a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug synthesized in U.S.A. whic
aitagonizes the onset mechanism of pain by inhibiting synthesis of prostaglandin.
To evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness and side reaction of Nimesulide (Mesulid¢ç), a clinical stud
was carried out in 30 patients consisting of 19 degenerative arthritis and 11 rheumatoid arthritis. The patients received daily dose of 200mg Nimesulide (Mesulid¢ç) for 10.days. The results were as follows;
1. The clinical efficacy of Nimesulide was "Marked improved" in 12 patients (40.0%), "Moderately im proved" in 11 patients (36.7%), "Slightly improved" in 6 patients (20.0%) and "Unchanged" in 1 patient (3.3%).
2. The tolerance to Nimesulide was "Excellent" in 25 patients (83.4%), "Fair" in 4 patients .(13.3%) and "Poor?¢¥ in 1 patient (3.3%).
3. The side effects were facial swelling, indigestion, headache and dizziness in 5 patients (16.7%), but they were observed only in patients with daily dose of 400mg Nimesulide and all of the symptoms were relieved with discontinuation of drug.
It was concluded that Nimesulide (Mesulid¢ç) is a useful drug in orthopaedic field for the management of degenerative arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
